I'M PREGNANT

I have been advised by my health food store and by my pharmacist that i can continue to take my ultivite throughout my pregnancy. Whilst i know the PREG-CEL is designed for pregnancy, i'd prefer to take the ultivite. i've taken it for years, my body is used to it, and i read in your brochure that it has all the nutrients nessesary. However i just read on an online forum run by a pharmacist that ultivite should not be taken during pregnancy as it has many herbs that are dangerous. As this contradicts what i've been told by my pharmacist and in your brochure I thought i'd email you and ask for a precise answer. Is ultivite safe to take during pregnancy?

Swisse Women’s Ultivite Formula 1 in Pregnancy

We refer to the above and thank you for your email.

While we recommend the Swisse Pregcel Multivitamin, if you would prefer the Swisse Women’s Ultivite Formula 1, generally it is safe to take in pregnancy.  There are no hormonally active herbs and the formulation does not contain Vitamin A.

During pregnancy, requirements for vitamins and minerals increase and a good multivitamin is beneficial for you and the development of the foetus.  The Swisse Women’s Ultivite Formula 1 contains 500mcg of folic acid which is an amount recommended by Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council to be taken before and during pregnancy.  This dose of folic acid may assist in the prevention of neural tube defects known as spina bifida.

It is Swisse policy that we always advise that you check with your Health Professional first before taking any supplements, as he/she knows your health status much better and would advise of any potential contraindications or additional requirements you may have.

There is overwhelming research confirming that minerals such as calcium and magnesium are beneficial for the health of mother and child. Calcium is best taken in conjunction with magnesium, as both minerals are essential for bone formation in the growing baby. Without magnesium, calcium is far less effective in the body.
